February 2011 - Whilst a decision was made on the future of the CDX estate with engine problems, I
bought this CD spec' estate as a stop gap vehicle ('W' registration 2000) for the bargain price of
£399 (if you take into account the 6 months road tax, half a tank of petrol, and a pound coin under
the back seat)! This turned out to be a good buy, with it sailing through its MOT test 11 months later.
February 2013 - Failed MOT on track rod end and number plate lamp. This ebay bargain has done me well
without much attention, although it could do with a oil change. There are signs of rust on the rear
wheelarches, a few scratches and dents, so I have to consider how much should be spent on it.

Spark plugs hidden under oil on the off-side bank. The cam cover seals were replaced (common problem)
on both banks of the V6 engine, and cleaned the engine breather system as there had been a noticable
whiff of burnt oil coming from the exhaust manifolds.

May 2014 - A Land Rover reversed into the front nearside wing whilst it was parked. Luckily the
insurance company authorised the repairs. MOT test moved to August as the cars are easier to work on
during the summer. Shown wearing the CDX wheels, borrowed whilst the other car was off the road.

August 2015 - Fitted new brake discs and pads all round. She's still providing a comfortable
and roomy service with 142,000 miles on the clock, and spends 5 days a week resting on the driveway.

Summer 2016 - The car is still running well, but the handbrake was binding due to a sticking cable.
As a temporary measure, the car was parked on level ground in gear, but unfortunately one day it
rolled down the driveway and contacted the wall causing a crease in the front bumper. The engine
repairs had been completed on the CDX, so this car was taken off the road requiring numerous repairs.

Summer 2018 - With the car having been sat idle for a couple of years, I decided to carry out
numerous repairs with a view to putting the car back into good working order, including new suspension
wishbones and steering parts, handbrake cable, cam belt & rollers, and tidying up the bodywork.

The cam covers were modified into single bank covers for a couple of reasons - firstly they're
easier to fit than the twin bank arrangement, and inspection of the plug wells for oil can be
carried out without the need to remove anything.

Summer 2020 - With all the refurbishment work carried out, the car sailed through its MOT test
and was back in service, whilst the CDX was parked up and periodically started and moved.

![](omega_pic301.jpg)
2021 - Despite regular maintenance, the scuttle drain can easily block up causing rainwater to
enter the cabin. This is the first sign that something's not right, so the scuttle drain is
now inspected even more regularly to prevent wet carpets.

![](omega_pic306.jpg)
2022 - The car continues to give good service, although a coil pack failure occurred due to
rainwater dripping onto it from the join in the scuttle cover. A curved styrene shield was
fitted to both cars to deflect any water which may seep in.

2023 - The car is still driven once a week and is still a delight to drive. Notable work carried
out was the replacement of the exhaust mid and tail sections. Due to excessive corrosion
on the catalytic converter flanges, adaptor flanges were fitted as seen on the inset image.
November 2024 - Some delamination of the windscreen in the bottom corners, combined with a crack
resulted in a new windscreen being fitted. The heater only gives out luke warm air, so a
new matrix is likely required (or further investigation by-passing the winter electric pump).

January 2025 - I've thoroughly enjoyed keeping my old Vauxhalls on the road, but things have
become more difficult as I get older. A newer modern car in the family has brought about the
reluctant decision to sell this Omega CD, so it's now gone to a new owner who has been looking
for a 2.5 V6 manual for some time. It's good to know I've helped keep it on the road for a few
years, and hopefully it will continue for a few more. Goodbye old friend.
