BRCW Type 2 - Class 26 & Class 27 Locomotives

*****************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Class 26

The finished 26 023, lightly weathered in a mid-70s condition. The cabside tablet catcher recess on this type caused early TOPS renumbering to be carried at the non-standard right-hand end of the loco.

From a mid-sixties period, here is Class 26 D5328.

Although Class 26 ‘D5331’ began as a swop-body project because the jumper cable between the nose end and underframe made swapping bodyshells difficult. A good offer price on a new Heljan 26 solved the problem by providing D5331 with a mechanism. The loco is being modelled in 1969/70 condition, before the yellow was extended to the cabside window framing and snowploughs, and just a bit of weathering will see it finished.

.... as seen from above at Villier Street.

Slightly out of period for the 1970s is 26038 in Railfreight red stripe livery. A repainted and detailed Heljan model to represent the loco in the condition it attended the Hereford Open day on the 5th May 1991.

Class 27

BRCW Class 27 D5355 is seen arriving at Canada Street with a class 9 mixed freight.

Another view of D5335 (later 27009), delivered new to Glasgow Eastfield in 1961, making it suitable for working with the small North British 0-4-0 shunters on Canada Street.

5373 from the Shenston Road fleet is captured at Hornsey Broadway.

The finished mid-70s era 27 027 (ex-5373). This, and several other locos of the era, carried TOPS numbers applied in the pre-TOPS block style characters. Some ScR locos, including 06 008, even carried markings featuring a mix of both character styles within the same running number!

Another Shenston Road loco - 5380 is seen at BSC Shenston Works.

BRCW type 2 D5382 is in charge of the breakdown train heading for East London. This and the following image are from Paul James Eastwell fleet.

Sister locomotive D5385, another Eastwell loco captured on the flyover at the head of parcels working.

A pair of Greg's Heljan Class 27s with D5389 leading a rake of 16 ton mineral wagons.

Class 27 - 5409 at Shenston Road.

Class 27 'D5410' in typical neglected sixties condition. Originally used on the London Midland region, this loco retained this livery into 1968/69 after transfer to Scotland.
