A total of 120 LMS designed 0-6-0 diesel electric shunting locomotives were built,
introduced in 1944 with 14 for War Department use. The last examples in British
Railways use were withdrawn by 1971.
LMS/BR Class 11, number 12051, built at Derby during 1948/49, and modelled as it appeared
at the dawn of the 1970s just prior to withdrawal. Constructed using a heavily modified Class
08 uses Alan Gibson No. 4849 tender wheels of suitable diameter, drilled out to accept 1/8”
axles, and the brake rigging positions adjusted to suit. The Class 11 0-6-0 (forerunner of
the Class 08 & 09) again had its origins with the LMS, but the creation of BR saw many of
the order built and delivered into BR ownership. 12051 was an early example completed during
the brief period before the newly formed British Railways had designed itself a badge. The
loco is seen stabled at Canada Street after arriving at the yard with a local trip freight.

0.5mm is faced off the back of the wheel and the flange polished smooth. There's no need to
remove the cranks, leaving the quatering intact.

Each wheel is moved 0.5mm on the axle, regauging them to EM gauge.

Showing the rods refitted and the wheelsets ready for going back into the model.

Fitted with a Howes Next 18 ESU Loksound V5 micro decoder, with a Train-O-Matic
Smart Power Pack (stay alive) fitted in the cab. Some surgery is required to the bottom of
the control desk for it to fit, and since being reassembled, you wouldn't know it's there.
