Class 01

A portrait view of D2954, which had been delivered new in 1956 as 11504, and had recently been renumbered into the diesel sequence. It was destined to later become the foundation stone of the TOPS numbering system adopted in 1973, becoming 01001, but by then was at the isolated Holyhead Breakwater line in North Wales being used as a source of spares.

BR class 01 at Canada Road.

BR class 01 at The Brewery.

The re-worked model of Barclay 0-4-0 01002, finished as the loco appeared in the late 1970s, during its 14 years of exile on the isolated 4 mile long system of the Holyhead breakwater railway

Class 02

Hornsey Road depot stabling sidings are occupied by a variety of shunters. Nearest the stop blocks is a Yorkshire Engine Co / BR Class 02. This is a DJH whitemetal kit which was purchased many years ago during the Holmeworth days. Unnumbered, it doesn't see a lot of use in a North London based location, but is a long time favourite captured here for the album.

D2857 - a Yorkshire Engine Co 0-4-0 shunting loco stabled under the bridge at Canada Street. This locomotive went to Birds Recycling at Long Marston after withdrawal and was used as the works pilot for a few years before dismantling.

Turning the clock back to the 1970s on the north side of the Mersey. One of the three remaining Class 02 locos in the BR fleet is seen resting in the Canada Street yard. ‘02 003’ spent the whole of its BR ownership working from depots in the Liverpool area, before being sold into industrial use in the summer of 1975.

Bringing the layout into the TOPS era with one of the 3 Allerton Class 02 locos that survived renumbering, is pictured between duties.

Yorkshire Engine Company built. BR Class 02 at Canada Road.
